Overview

To help reduce the companies carbon footprint, I transitioned Copernicus Educational Products’ top-selling metal-tube products to bamboo and recycled plastic, establishing a new material partnership and launching within an eight-month window. The initiative combined material innovation, technical problem-solving, and strategic market expansion into Early Childhood Education (ECE).

Context

Bamboo ply was introduced as an alternative for certain components on existing products to help achieve the companies carbon reduction goals. The challenge was taken further by designing a few key items to test out the companies reach in the ECE market.

Challenge

  • Verified bamboo could match metal tubing performance across multiple form factors

  • Aligned supplier capabilities and factory processes for consistent production

  • Defined material limits and tolerances through structured testing

  • Complied with ASTM and consulted CSA standards

  • Created ECE-focused product concepts to assess market fit

  • Performance testing to ensure bamboo could hold withstand a kid driven environments

Outcome

I led the shift from traditional metal tubing to bamboo for our top-selling products, matching rigorous performance standards. Delivering from initial design to launch in just eight months—without cutting corners on safety or quality.

Designed with endless possibilities in mind, the new ECE bamboo product line embraces open-ended play, empowering children to unleash their imagination with every interaction. Each piece was thoughtfully created to target both fine and gross motor skills, seamlessly blending detailed, tactile discovery with dynamic physical play.
